I Was a Teenage Toffee Baron

So today I’m a guest poster up in Canada, eh? My post appears at the great Manitoban website Free to Pursue. Click the link below to read all about how a few bars of Mackintosh Toffee changed the life of one young US citizen forever!

In 1973, I lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota, which is located on the Red River. Like the Nile, the Red flows northward, one of the few rivers in the world to do so.

That spring, a river wasn’t the only thing flowing north from Grand Forks. My junior high school fed a steady pipeline of exchange students up to Winnipeg, Manitoba, which also is located on the Red.

I don’t know how teachers picked kids for these trips, but I suspect only the best and brightest made the cut. Let’s be clear: I’ve never been among the best and brightest in my life—which explains much of what follows . . .

Heading over! Can’t wait to read. I love your blog Noonan and nominated you in Plutus awards. I didn’t know Free to Pursue was Canadian. I’ve added them to my blog reader. #somanyblogs #notenoughtime 😉

Great story, Noonan! I have a similar story in the pipeline, but it’s way less exciting and funny than yours is! 🙂

Thanks NMW! Of course, there are few things on the planet more exciting than the rarefied extravagance of Canadian toffee! 🙂

Noonan, thanks again for allowing me to feature your “Toffee Tales” on F2P. What a pleasure to read (including LOL moments).

Your writing is always informative and entertaining. No wonder you’ve in the running for a Plutus. (Yup, you got my vote ;).

BTW: I still have those three toffee bars in my kitchen cupboard…maybe I can sell them at a premium at FinCon14…
